Is there Just One Mom?

This is the first time that I originally wrote a post in Spanish for my blog. Perhaps because talking or writing about my family, or the people that I grew up with, doesn’t sound or mean the same in a language in which I have never communicated with them before.  Version en Espanol.

Since I was a little girl, I used to hear this popular saying “There is just ONE mother”, and I have no doubts this is true.  However, the generosity God has always had to me, gave me the opportunity to have, not just one mother, but two.  I was very fortunate to grow up in an unconventional family. After my parents divorced, I didn’t just gain another mom, but also another dad, and an endless list of aunts and uncles that were mothers and fathers to me during so many years.

Today, Mother’s Day, my love and appreciation goes, not just to my inimitable and wonderful mom and grandma, but also to all those women that saw me become a woman, and that one way or another left in me a little something of which today makes me the woman I am.

I have nothing but gratitude for God to have given me the wonderful gift of motherhood, and to be able to practice all the lessons I’ve learned from my mom and grandma.  They both are always present in every meal I cook for my family, every timeout I need to give to my son, but specially, every visit to the hair salon!  –  Because those who have had the pleasure to meet my grandma, know that if there is anything all her daughters and granddaughters inherited from her, was her vanity!  And I have to say I feel proud to realize how much of them I have in me.

I know that the best tribute I can give to my mothers, not just in Mother’s Day, but for the rest of my life, is that of transmitting to my son all the values and traditions that they taught me.  It is my greatest desire that one day my son will look back and  be able to recognize and admire the amazing gift of his culture, heritage and family traditions.

Thank you so much mommy and granny for being the best mothers to me. I am everything I am because of you two.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Love,
Erika

Very nice!… But… Every time out you give who? hahaha…. that’s funny considering he’s only had maybe 5 time outs this year. Maybe that’s a great sign of what a wonderful mom you are 🙂
